Feb. 17 (Pt. 2) : Whistler Sliding Center

A video of the mountains going up to Whistler.
Me in front of turn 9 of the luge track.

The Canadian luge doubles team flying down the course.

The Russian luge doubles team at the very beginning of their first run.

The gondola taking you from Whistler Village to the Whistler Sliding Center. The line up for this thing was huge!!!

A view of the Horseshoe Bay. This is on the way to Whistler.

The trip up to Whistler was amazing, such a nice view! The luge was really exciting. The announcer described this sport perfectly, "two big men going down a tube of ice on a lunch tray going 135 km/h". Pretty much close to impossible to take a picture of them.

  1. Hi Dude

Another awesome collection of pictures. The little video is good as well. That highway may be one of the most scenic drives in Canada if not the world. Auntie Dianne and I drove up that road in a convertible when I was learning to drive.

The luge looked cool. You are able to get close to the track. The weather looks spectacular now. Too warm for winter olympics, but nice for doing tourist stuff.

We were sooooo happy Christine Nesbitt won gold yesterday so you would see a Canadian get their gold medal last night at rhe victory celebration. Mom and Dad were high five-ing and cheering in front of the T.V. I hope the concert with Hedley was good. Rocking out with your Auntie, cool!!!

Make sure you give a thousand thank yous to Jessica for letting you stay at her place. Ten thousand thanks to Aunt Di for all of her efforts in organizing the trip to the Olympics!!!!

Long drive today but it will be awesome as you travel through the mountains. Hot tubbing in Osoyoos tonight.

Call us when you arrive in the Okanogan. Post the rest of your Olympic adventure when you get a chance.

    Love Dad

  2. OMG…these pictures are wonderful. I know that I am missing you more and more as I am constantly checking your blog for updates. Hope you have a safe trip through the mountains today. Tell Auntie Di not to drive so fast with my precious cargo.

We were screaming so loud last night when Christine Nesbitt won Gold that Olivia had to hang up the telephone while speaking to Travis Hockey Coach.

I could only image how you felt standing tall at the Awards Ceremony last night while the Canadian Anthem played. It brings tears to my eyes. We are certainly blessed to live in this Country.

    Miss you…Love you,
    Mom xoxoxoxoxox :)

  3. It certainly is a lovely drive from Vancouver to Whistler. Your Dad and I drive it from Whistler to Vancouver years ago when he was about 9. I had taken him to BC to visit your Aunt Di. We were travelling back from Kamloops and I decided to take a road marked "summer road". starting in the old Gold mining town of Bralorne in the Bridge River Valley. It proved to be an adventure as the sign at the beginning of this mountain road said, "Four Wheel Drive Vehicles only." We travelled on in our rented two wheel drive car. It was a very rough road but finally we popped out on a logging road north of Whistler. It was a very modest vacation place back then. We then drove south to Vancouver.

Is the mine site at Boston Mills still there on the side of the mountain south of Squamish. Years ago, there was a great flooding disaster there that largely washed away the town.

I gather you are going to do the ski resort thing with Aunt Di for a few days. I guess once you have snowboarded in the mountains to do so in Ontario will seem modest indeed. Have fun!

  4. I am now in Osoyoos B.C.where Auntie Di lives. Unfortunately we forgot the camera cord to get the pictures on the Internet at Jess place :( We are trying to figure out how to mail it here as fast as possible (express night courrier) but for that we would have to drive to Penticton wich is a 40 minute drive from here which we really might have to do cause we really want those pictures. (after all that time in the car I don't ever want to see it again!!!)

The medal ceremony was one the best experience of my life. When I heard the National Anthem play, I felt so proud to be Candian. Got the video Dad!!!

I'll try to get the pictures on the Internet nas soon as possible but it might be a while.

  5. Dylan, I am absolutely thrilled that you got to see a Canadian Gold presentation. I know that would be a real special moment to see the flag go up and be able to sing O Canada. I saw Christine Nesbitt's race. It was very thrilling. Now for some fun on Big White. Enjoy!
    Love, Aunt Penny

  7. Dylan,

The fastest way to get something delivered city to city is to have it put on the bus. I guess someone figured this out already.
